one vm per service or many VMs per service?

The Virtual Machine implementation and Portal pushes folks into the mode of creating one VM per Service (public DNS) just by nature.

I realize that it is relatively easy to have multiple Virutal Machines behind  a single Service (public DNS) thus grouping them.

I was wondering if there was a preferred model between these two?

Or, if it is simply being considered a topology / design decision.

I know that the port forwarding for SSH and RDP do not work if the public and private endpoints do not match - I am assuming that is a bug that is being resolved.  This alone pushes folks into a one Virutal Machine per Service way of thinking.
