Linux virtual machines regularly lose connectivity

We are evaluating Azure as a platform for running a set of MySQL servers to support our clinical trials data management services. We have virtual machines (XS and S size) which are configured with OpenSuse 12.3, on which we have installed MySQL community servers v5.5.30. Each machine has two endpoints: ports 22 (ssh) and 3306 (mysql)

So far so good - the setup process works fine. The VMs are made available quickly and easily. It all looks very promising.

BUT - intermittently connectivity to all endpoints is lost and the only "solution" is to manually restart the machine, which restores the connectivity. (Of course, that's no solution). Sometimes connectivity drops after a few minutes, other times it takes longer. But at least every 24hrs it is gone.

So this is a bind for us. We really want for Azure to work for us, but obviously we can't trust such an unstable platform to host our production services.

Is there any news from Microsoft that these issues have been recognized and are being dealt with?

Thanks

-david
