Hello,
We saw two of our VMs (hosted in North Europe under an MSDN subscription plan) shut down unexpectedly around noon (BST) today - upon which occasion they could no longer be started again, the portal coming back with the error message of 'The operation cannot be performed because the virtual machine is faulted'.
The only way we managed to get them back online was through deleting and then re-creating them using a previously exported configuration. During analysis of the System event log, we discovered the following messages:
5/8/2013 12:01:51 PMThe process C:\Windows\system32\vmicsvc.exe (PROAPI02) has initiated the shutdown of computer PROAPI02 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Other (Planned)
Reason Code: 0x80000000
Shutdown Type: shutdown
Comment:
We have had a similar incident with one other machines a few months back (although the machine was not 'faulted' afterwards), and on that occasion we found the thread at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/WAVirtualMachinesforWindows/thread/40ce155c-2188-4a59-9507-85bb06d6e0e2. One would think though that now that the feature is in GA, events like this should stop occurring?
Would be great to receive some comment - preferably official - on this.
Thanks!
