Hi,
A few hours ago, my web site stopped responding.
I'm running a VM with Ubuntu.
My End Point monitoring of my site, showed a steady slow down in response over 2hrs, and now it also just gets errors. I have 3 of them, Chicago, HK and Netherlands. And they all show the same problem.
If I try to telnet/ssh in, I just cant, puTTY just returns a 'Network error: Software caused connection abort', I
Sometimes I get the username prompt, then it errors after entering the username.
Sometimes it gets to the password prompt, then it errors.
Once I was able to log in, there was nothing wrong with the machine, that I could see. Then after a few times I got logged out with a timeout error.
I thought it could have been a DDOS attack, but the uptime was fine, nothing was running, even checking my access.log, there was hardly any accessing going on. Nothing in /var/log looked wrong either.
I've rebooted the machine (which took a long time, like 5-10 minutes), and even removed the HTTP port 80 End point.
I just cant see what is slowing it down so much.
I even have sar running, and cant see anything from that either.
Has anyone got any ideas on what I can do, or what this could be?
Could I be being attacked on another port or something?
To me, it looks like there is nothing wrong with the machine, but there has to be something.
Thanks for any help,
Rob.
