SQL Server TDE on Windows Azure VM

Hi there,

I have a couple of questions regarding the usage of SQL Server TDE on Windows Azure VMs.

I have a client who wants to enter into a research task for which they have specified a desire to enable TDE (or equivalent similar encryption) on a VM hosted via Windows Azure inside a VPN.

As far as I can see, this should not be a problem via Windows Azure if I setup a VM with SQL Server 2008+ and enable the server as normal.

The client has an enterprise level agreement with MS, and the option to transfer a VHD to Windows Azure VM exists.

1. For the purposes of a demo system, is there any advantage to getting the customer to provide a VHD with pre-configured SQL instance, as opposed to simply using an image from the Windows Azure library?

2. I understand full disk encryption may be an option (although not on system disks) for a VM in Windows Azure. Does anyone have any comparisons in either complexity of performance between TDE and Full disk encryption?

Any thoughts and info greatly appreciated.
