How does virtual machine disk work in Azure?

My initial understanding is Azure disk is something like AWS EBS, i.e. when you shutdown the instance, you can start a new one without losing data.

But when I see this: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/storage/

Then it sound like that the "Page Blobs and Disks" is on the top of "Geographically Redundant Storage (GRS)", then it is very cool since EBS is just a like a local SAN but Azure disk is a global SAN with min. copy of 6, right?

Am I correct?
