VM initiated outbound traffic does not always use the Public IP

Hi all

I have a few Linux virtual machines (Ubuntu 12.04) and have noticed that when connections are attempted to a non-Azure system on a custom port i.e. > 1024, the connection packets are labelled with source IP of 100.xxx.xxx.xxx rather than the Public VIP.

This in my instance causes these packets to be dropped at the destination as it's firewall is configured to only permit specific IP addresses. These 100.xxx addresses differ from the local IP addresses of the VMs and there is no sign within the Management Portal of their origin. The addresses also appear to not be internet routable with traces timing out within 2 hops regardless of point of origin.

Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

Thanks,

Ollie
