Azure VM can not reach remote API

Hi there,

I have problems to connect to a remote API on my Azure VM server. It is about a Debian Wheezy server.

For me it is not possible to do a telnet to the Discogs api:
telnet api.discogs.com 80
even though other sites are reachable:
telnet bing.com 80

I read that ping and traceroutes are disabled on Azure but i dont think this has anything to do with this? Hope that someone can help since this api is reachable from all my servers except the one running in Azure.
