Set Screens for VMs

$

Greetings,

Currently I work with one workstation and 4 monitors attached to it. This workstation will be used to open two VMs at the same time (we use Windows remote desktop to connect azure VMs). My question is, Is there a way to assign 2 monitors at each VM?

Monitor 1 and monitor 2 -> VM1

Monitor 3 and monitor 4 -> VM2

One work around that I have "sort" of found is to disable 2 monitors, open the VMs and then enable all monitors. This will make the VMs only "see" 2 monitors when I RDP and then adjust them as I need them. The problem comes if I accidentally maximize a VM window or I make any adjustment to my display, VMs will recognize the 4 monitors and adjust to use all of them, so no more neat 2 VMs.

Thanks in advance for your help.

CSP migration, cannot move VM: Resource move is not supported for resources that have plan with different subscriptions

Hi,

I'm trying to move a resource group to a new subscription. But the validation failed with the following error:

ResourceMoveFailed
Message: Resource move is not supported for resources that have plan with different subscriptions. Resources are 'Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines/ZBFormulieren' and tracking id is 'bda43449-90a4-4bcc-960a-27dfa67bf8b3'.

I have checked the VM, but the subscription is the same as all the other VM's and apps. Any suggestion?

Need help running Topaz Gigapixel AI on a VM

I use a photo enhancement software called Topaz Gigapixel AI. I would like to use it on a VM because it requires a lot of processing from my GPU. It is possible to download it to the VM, but nothing happens when I try to run it. It won't open. I think it's because Topaz requires a GPU and when no physical GPU is detected (I used the N-Series VM and tried to find the GPU using CPUID, but it wasn't listed) it won't start. I have no idea how to fix this or trick the software. I am new to using VM's so maybe I am missing something obvious. Any help is appreciated! There is a free version available for download that is an exact copy of the real version, but you only have it for 30 days. You can easily replicate my situation by downloading it from their website for free.

I successfully deployed a WVD Provisioned pool this past Saturday. I deleted it due to it failing the client domain registration. Since then I cannot provision a new WVD pool.

I get this error everytime: Errors The template deployment 'rds.wvd-provision-host-pool-20191008135426' is not valid according to the validation procedure. The tracking id is 'a8da37b6-8197-4cc7-b58d-2a9b85f03fcf'. See inner errors for details.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I was trying to assign Pubic IP to nested guest VM in azure.

So, I spin a VM (I call it HOST) of Windows 2016 and enabled Hyper-V. Then i started making guest VM in Host win 2016.

I created a NAT switch through which I can assign private IP to these guest VM.

but now I am facing issues with assigning Public IP to these guest VM.

If some can guide me on the above issue.

Adding external users to Windows Virtual Desktop

Our Windows Virtual Desktop is currently working perfectly.

I could added some Azure Active Directory users and run RemoteApp and everything was ok.

We are trying to add external accounts to Windows Virtual Desktop. It could be possible?

If not, Can we add external users to manage web app management tool? (https://github.com/Azure/RDS-Templates/tree/master/wvd-templates/wvd-management-ux/deploy)

Possible to pass login information in fileUris for CustomScriptForLinux?

$

We use the CustomScriptForLinux extention to setup our virtual machines. Currently it downloads the script from an Azure file share, but the script actually lives in our private bitbucket repository. So now I tried to point to the file direcly in git, using this URL format:

https://username:password@bitbucket.org/owner/project/raw/testBranch/path/init.sh

This URL works fine using wget and curl. But when I try this url in the fileUris property for the CustomScriptForLinux extention, it fails with the error "nonnumeric port: 'password@bitbucket.org'".

So, it seams it can't handle this way of keeping the authentication information in the URL. Is there some way around this? We are not willing to make our repository public, or move outside bitbucket.

I know that we can make the init script minimal, and use it to download the main script from git. But that still means that this init script needs to live in two places (git and the file storage), and we need to make sure both are up to date. Also it means that we need to generate a SAS token for the storage account (we don't use such a token for anything else). So we would really prefer a solution that is 100% git based.

I can't run the program Topaz Gigapixel AI on my N-series VM

I have the latest GPU drivers installed. The program just won't open. I have no idea what to do, if someone would like to try it on their own VM please download the 30 day free trial and test if you can get it to work. I really needs this program to run on a VM but I have no idea how to do it. Thanks.

Redeploy Acronis Azure Gateway error:The resource group is in a location that is not supported by 1 or more resources in template

We think we are very close to getting this to work.

We have a VM create by the Acronis Azure Gateway template and it fails to deploy on "initialize storage". When we created the VM, our only option was Storage General Purpose V1 and after that we upgraded the storage to V2. So when we try to redeploy the VM, it says: The resource group is in a location that is not supported by one or more of the resources in the template. Please choose a different resource group.

So we can edit the template but what are we looking for?

Here is the original error when we create the VM from the template:

{"code":"DeploymentFailed","message":"At least one resource deployment operation failed. Please list deployment operations for details. Please see https://aka.ms/arm-debug for usage details.","details":[{"code":"Conflict","message":"{\r\n \"status\": \"Failed\",\r\n \"error\": {\r\n \"code\": \"ResourceDeploymentFailure\",\r\n \"message\": \"The resource operation completed with terminal provisioning state 'Failed'.\",\r\n \"details\": [\r\n {\r\n \"code\": \"VMExtensionProvisioningError\",\r\n \"message\": \"VM has reported a failure when processing extension 'InitializeStorage'. Error message: \\\"Enable failed: failed to execute command: command terminated with exit status=1\\n[stdout]\\n\\n[stderr]\\n\\\".\"\r\n }\r\n ]\r\n }\r\n}"}]}

Visual Studio connecting to my Azure

Hello,

I've basically created my own C++ window form application on Visual Studios and when I change and publish this application I want it to check for updates before starting up, how would I go about making this work, at the moment I cannot see how I would connect this to my Azure or what services I need to have.

Sorry if this is not the right sub forum, I literally have no idea what service I would need to make this possible. I don't want to use a Web App, I want a normal application on local machines.

Network Traffic Capture on VM for IDS

$

I'm new to Azure, and I'm looking for a way to capture traffic (pcap) to/from my VMs.

For example, I have multiple Linux VMs and a SecurityOnion VM. I would like my SecurityOnion VM to capture all traffic so it can function as an IDS (Intrusion Detection System). However, I'm not sure how to configure this in Azure. With a physical setup I would use a SPAN/Mirror port or network tap, or in ESXi I would enable Promiscuous Mode on the virtual switch, but I understand that Azure does not support this feature (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fc567169-74d1-44c9-aea3-f8c93829b51b/is-it-possible-to-put-the-network-card-into-promiscuous-mode-within-a-virtual-machine-in-azure?forum=WAVirtualMachinesforWindows).

What's the best approach to take for accomplishing this task?

Avaiability of D2a VMs

Hello,
Are D2a VMs available? They appear on the pricing website but I cannot find them at the time of creating a VM. Thanks.

Are VMs right for my application, is so which ones should I be looking at?

I am doing some analysis that requires windows software on a windows based server owned by a colleague. The analysis is slow, partly because the machine does not have an SSD and we might not have the option to upgrade that machine.

The machine we have right now is running windows server 2012 r2 and has:

320 GB RAM

2 CPUs (56 logical processors)

and about 3.5 TB of HD storage

I am looking for something that is similar but has SSD and maybe some more cores.

I browsed the pricing page:

I came across:

E64as v3

Which seems like a good fit with:

64 cores

432 GB memory

864 GB temporary disk space

I guessing I would have to upgrade to one of the SSDs priced here:

to meet a similar storage capacity (like a P50)

Does a VM even seem logical for what I am trying to achieve? If so am I thinking along the right lines in terms of specs?

Bastion RDP connection to Linux VM?

I've been playing around with Bastion and connecting to VMs, and it seems that it uses RDP under the covers to connect to Windows VMs, and SSH to connect to Linux VMs.

I've enabled xRDP on a Linux VM.  Is it possible to use Bastion to connect to Linux via RDP instead of SSH internally?

Unable to make an RDP Connection to my Azure Windows VM

Hi Experts,

Can you kindly help me on how to connect to Azure Windows VM using RDP...?

What I tried: Downloaded the RDP file generated from Azure and finally not able to connect to my VM...

Also tried to redeploy couple of times and reset the password also...but not succeeded.

Is it possible to use Azure N-series VMs to run desktop applications that use OpenGL 3.1 and above?

$

I created an N-series Windows 10 VM that has the NVidia K series Tesla K-80 GPU in Azure. However, when I try to run an AutoDesk app on it, I get an error that the machine only supports OpenGL v1.0.

It appears that this is a limitation of using RDP to connect to the VM. So I tried using TeamViewer and TinyVNC, but I had similar issues. I also tried updating registry settings on the VM as described here. Nothing has worked so far

Any suggestions?

Can not run "Get-RdsTenant"

simple VM access question

Azure newbie feeling really dumb for asking this …… but when I create a vm e.g. server 2012, in Azure using the Azure online portal, and it has a private IP address, how do I then access the server to configure it??? If it had a public IP address I could RDP to it I believe then use the 2012 server standard GUIs to configure all the server services.

I just want to build myself a small test network and have looked at the test lab guide as something to work from, but can't see how to get round this simplest of things.

I haven't used powershell or cloud powershell before but maybe these have to be used (if they can be used for this) and you can't use the regular 2012 server GUIs that you'd normally use for installing and configuring services etc?

Any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks.
