I successfully deployed a WVD Provisioned pool this past Saturday. I deleted it due to it failing the client domain registration. Since then I cannot provision a new WVD pool.

I get this error everytime: Errors The template deployment 'rds.wvd-provision-host-pool-20191008135426' is not valid according to the validation procedure. The tracking id is 'a8da37b6-8197-4cc7-b58d-2a9b85f03fcf'. See inner errors for details.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

How to allocate a VM using powershell

Hi,

I have the following requirements for a Azure VM that I must spin up at the end of every CI build from Azure DevOps and then domain join this VM on my intranet for running continuous tests (CT). I want to do all this using powershell Az cmdlets

OS

  • Windows Server 2016 Data Center Edition

Software:

  • IIS
  • .Net Core 2.2
  • Visual Studio 2017 latest edition
  • JRE latest edition
  • Google chrome latest edition

How do I go about setting this up? What is the closest available virtual machine image suitable for my requirement?

At the moment I am referring to this article, but I still have lots of ground to cover here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-stack/user/azure-stack-quick-create-vm-windows-powershell?view=azs-1908

Can a IaaS with "premium disks" migrate between different availability zones within the same region?

Can a IaaS with "premium disks" migrate between different availability zones within the same region?

If we wanted to have HA between servers would it be best to use scale sets or a LB between avail zones(AZ) within the same region?   Is there a minimum # of IaaS for a scale set?,... can we do this with two IaaS in a scale set?

I am thinking a LB cannot migrate between AZs within the same region hence would not provide HA?,... please confirm.

How to related VM Speed between IOPS and MBPS

I would like to understand how to relate IOPS speed per disk attached with VM and network mbps speed. For an example IOPS 6400 = how much mbps speed ? Is there any formula to calculate it ?

Migrated 15 physical servers from on-premises to Azure

Hi Team,

We have made use of Azure Migrate and moved our work loads to Azure. We have used the suggested VM sizes mentioned by Azure migrate for all our servers. However, we see some performance issues and there is some latency when we have our applications constantly running. Would you suggest me to increase the size of the VM for better performance or should I continue to use the same sized VM's and drill down the performance counters to mitigate any issues found.

- We have Antivirus configured with on-premises Threat/endpoint protection agents configured. Do you think that is causing any issues with our server performances. Please guide us.

Managed disks not visible in VM Disk Management

I have two VM's; both have this problem. They are running Standard_DS2_V2, which should support 8 data disks.  I created two identical Premium-LRS Managed disks from the Disk blade on the VM.  Upon RDP to the VM, disks do not appear in diskmgmt.msc nor in diskpart.  I have recreated both VM's but the problem persists.

Are VMs right for my application, is so which ones should I be looking at?

I am doing some analysis that requires windows software on a windows based server owned by a colleague. The analysis is slow, partly because the machine does not have an SSD and we might not have the option to upgrade that machine.

The machine we have right now is running windows server 2012 r2 and has:

320 GB RAM

2 CPUs (56 logical processors)

and about 3.5 TB of HD storage

I am looking for something that is similar but has SSD and maybe some more cores.

I browsed the pricing page:

I came across:

E64as v3

Which seems like a good fit with:

64 cores

432 GB memory

864 GB temporary disk space

I guessing I would have to upgrade to one of the SSDs priced here:

to meet a similar storage capacity (like a P50)

Does a VM even seem logical for what I am trying to achieve? If so am I thinking along the right lines in terms of specs?

VM Templates do not have settings included

Hello, I am new to templates. I am encountering a problem when i try to deploy a sql server vm using a template. I can go through the vm creation process to the end, and save the template. When i try to automate a deployment using that template, a lot of settings which i believe should exist in the template are being asked for and are for required fields in the deployment page.

I can't go forward to purchase because the fields under settings are required. Should this not pre-populate from the template? what am i doing wrong?

Public IP Address with VM's and Network Security Group

I have been having an issue with a Resource Group that has 2 VM's with NIC's (windows server 2019) a NSG, a public ip, load balancer, a vnet. this was all set up a few months back at first it worked great it was deployed using an Arcgis Deployment tool. when i began using it i had a few issues with the arcgis installations the vms were sort of set up as clones of one another that caused some issues, so i uninstalled all of the arcgis. The public ip address still was working after i did the uninstalls over the course of a couple days couple hours here and there i installed and set up the Arcgis during this time is when the public stopped working. i did temporarily shut down the vm's for a few days when i knew i was not going to be able to use them. since that time i have not been able to establish a connection to the public ip address ip or DNS i am still able to RDP on to one of the VM's but not the other from the outside no matter what rules i put in place nothing seems to make a difference.

Windows Azure VM crashing

Hello people.

I happen to have a vm in Azure (Windows 2008 R2) from a long time ago, in fact 2 years without event 1 reboot, but yesterday for no apparent reason and without me modifying anything the VM started to crash constantly apparently by a bsod.

I've googled a lot and everything points to a driver problem or something like that, but I really do not find the source of the error and do not know how to fix it yet.

That's why I came to ask for help here because there are people who know a lot and I don't really know that much honestly.

I left here the only dumps that generated the VM in its lifetime, which the first was yesterday with the first crash: https://mega.nz/#!4pN1zCIB!xZHf9LdtltOLjMd9b0u6QfloqTcMbSyPk-OufMZz4UA

I also was able to take a screen from the azure panel and this is what the bsod shows: https://i.stack.imgur.com/hUaZI.png

Thank you very much in advance.

Azure VM Disks after Implementing S2D

$

Hi all,

I have implemented a Failover Cluster on Azure VMs per specs in this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sql/virtual-machines-windows-portal-sql-create-failover-cluster#probe

However, now that i have set up S2D, I do not seem to have the ability to add data disks as if locally attached with a drive letter.  For SQL Server on-premises, the custom was to set up an E drive or F drive on both nodes (same drive letter on each node) for the SQL Root Directory.  However, when I add additional an 256GB disk to both nodes, it becomes part of the Storage Enclosure instead of being available in diskmgmt.msc.  The only way for me to initialize it is to allow it to stay part of the Storage Pool (it defaults to being part of the clusters S2D pool after the steps in the doc above).

That would be okay I guess, but when I try to issue the following command, it will not allow me to place a separate disk from the pool on both nodes with the same drive letter on each.  For Example:

New-Volume -StoragePoolFriendlyName S2D* -FriendlyName RootSQLDir -FileSystem REFS -Size 256GB -AllocationUnitSize 64KB -DriveLetter F

...yeilds the following error when i try to run it on both nodes:

New-Volume : The requested access path is already in use.
Activity ID: {2efdb1f6-7bd3-46df-8cba-f82d3c2850d2}
At line:1 char:1
+ New-Volume -StoragePoolFriendlyName S2D* -FriendlyName RootSQLDir -Fi ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidArgument: (:) [New-Volume], CimException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : StorageWMI 42002,Microsoft.Management.Infrastructure.CimCmdlets.InvokeCimMethodComman
   ew-Volume

Is there some way I an "locally attach" one data disk to the SQL01 VM as the F drive and "locally attach" the other data disk on the SQL02 VM as the F drive there?

Hi

I have a VM that consumes some videos. When I disconnect from RDP and re-connect after a while I see that video is not consumed as expected.

For example I am connecting RDP and starting a video. Then disconnecting RDP. Re-connecting after 5 hours which means 5 hours of video should be consumed but I can see only very less of minutes (i.e. 1 hours) consumed.

Can you help ?

I was trying to assign Pubic IP to nested guest VM in azure.

So, I spin a VM (I call it HOST) of Windows 2016 and enabled Hyper-V. Then i started making guest VM in Host win 2016.

I created a NAT switch through which I can assign private IP to these guest VM.

but now I am facing issues with assigning Public IP to these guest VM.

If some can guide me on the above issue.
