Windows Virtual Desktops

HI, I have gone through the documentation and I'm at the point where I am creating my Windows Virtual Desktop - Provision a host pool. When I go through the steps and I reach the end, I get this error Message:

Deployment template validation failed: 'The provided value 'new' for the template parameter 'newOrExistingVnet' at line '149' and column '26' is not valid. The parameter value is not part of the allowed value(s): 'existing'.'.

I'm not sure, but the 'new' that I see during creation is the virtual network and vmsubnet section.

I tried creating virtual network for my VMs yet they are not detected. In that section, I selected 'create new and avail I get the same error message.

If someone can help.

Aabout 6 months ago, i was able to successfully setup Windows Virtual Desktop but deleted all of the resource groups.

Now I'm I'm trying again and getting this error. can anyone help? Thank you

Unable to install SQL Server SP3 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 & SQL Server 2014 Azure VM

I have setup a Windows Server 2012 R2 + SQL Server 2014 VM (using Image Gallery) several years ago. However, it didn't update SQL Server 2014 SP3 automatically even now. When I tried to install SP3 manually, it rolled back after restart.

I tried to enable Automated Patching feature on Azure Portal, and it displayed "Deployment succeeded" message on the Notifications, but it goes back to Disable if I revisit the setting page.

I'm not familiar with Azure and not sure where to check. How to fix this problem?

Delete VM with all associated resources

Hi,

When I delete a VM I would expect its related resources to be deleted too (Network interface, public IP etc.)

Manually deleting the individual resources afterwards is cumbersome. Deleting the resource group would delete everything but this isnt an option if I have other VM's in the resource group I do not want to delete.

Is there a better solution for this?

Check if an Azure VM is already up and running

I want to start a vm using rest api following this code https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/compute/virtualmachines/start

But have 3 questions

1. Is there a way to know if a VM is up and running already using API or any other code?

2. What will happen if I try to start a vm which is already running?

3. How can we find out after calling the API that the VM is actually up and running? Is there a fixed wait time?

Can a IaaS with "premium disks" migrate between different availability zones within the same region?

Can a IaaS with "premium disks" migrate between different availability zones within the same region?

If we wanted to have HA between servers would it be best to use scale sets or a LB between avail zones(AZ) within the same region?   Is there a minimum # of IaaS for a scale set?,... can we do this with two IaaS in a scale set?

I am thinking a LB cannot migrate between AZs within the same region hence would not provide HA?,... please confirm.

Possible to restart scale set instances one at a time, with respect to the health probe?

$

I have set up a virtual machine scale set with more than one vm instance inside, and I have configured a http "health probe" (application health extension), as well as a rolling upgrade policy (if that is relevant in any way). But when I perform a restart all instances are restarted at the same time. It doesn't matter if I click "Restart" of the scale set itself in the "Overview" tab, or selecting all instances in the "Instances" tag and then clicking "Restart", the behavior is the same.

What I expected to happen was that the scale set restarted one instance, then waited until it became available with a positive health check (using the http health probe defined), and only after that it should have started with the second instance (and so on, until all instances are restarted). The way I see it, this should be the default, automatic, behavior of a scale set. Maybe an alternative solution could be that it always kept at least X percent of the instances running (meaning it can restart some of them in parallel, if there are several instances in total).

Is there any way to configure the scale set to handle restarts like this? I don't want to have to handle it manually, by checking the health status of one instance before restarting the next one. And preferably I would want a solution that only uses Azure Portal configuration and no script (I would like to be able to do this kind of restart using the Azure App, for example).

When I changed user alex's password, executing sudo command required me to enter a password. Before making this modification, I executed sudo command without entering a password. I tried to set sudoers, but it didn't work. Executing sudo-l, showing the following content, I know the problem should be the last line, but I don't know how to change it.

A question about Azure “Virtual Machine Contributor” role

$

0

Azure has defined three RBAC roles regarding virtual machines: Virtual Machine Administrator Login, Virtual Machine Contributor, and Virtual Machine User login. For the moment, it seems that the two ‘Login’ roles are only applicable to Linux virtual machines (Preview: Log in to a Linux virtual machine in Azure using Azure Active Directory authentication http://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/linux/login-using-aad).

By the definition, the “Virtual Machine Contributor” role is used to manage a virtual machine, but without access to the VM. The access to a Windows VM requires the use of local accounts defined on the VM through RDP sessions. However, Azure provides a few of remote access abilities to a Windows VM directly from Azure side, for example running any Powershell script through Custom Script Extension. As long as an AAD user has been assigned the Virtual Machine Contributor role, he/she can run Powershell scripts on a Windows VM with ‘NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM’ privilege. Is this not full access to the VM?

An AAD user with the Virtual Machine Contributor role can also reset the local administrator through VMAccess extension. With the local admin password, he/she can also access the VM through RDP.

Why is the “Virtual Machine Contributor” defined/claimed for manage purpose only without access?

Reportviewer Next page issue in azure

Hi All,

Currently we are migrating whole our application to azure. We are a calling SSRS reports(separate VM for Report server) through Reportviewer in our application (Hosted in azure). Report results are loaded in the reportviewer at the first time, then we are navigate to the next page/refresh the report viewer we are getting blank page(getting this issue for all the reports).

We are not getting any error. Checked the fiddler/browser network tab/Report server event viewer.

But the same reports are working properly from our on-premises servers.

I compare fiddler log of Azure and On-premises reportviewer - next page - request, found difference in request count. Azure request count is lesser than On-premises. Around 15 requests are not going in azure.

Please provide your thought on this.

Thanks in advance.

Linux VM killed by terrible data read spikes

$

Hi,

I've had this VM for two weeks already and I've been having this issue intermittently. My VM is a B1S running Debian 9 for a Wordpress site on a LAMP stack. This VM size should be enough as it's practically the same setup I've been running for 2 years on Digital Ocean with 0 issues.

The machine works fine until disk reads start to go up and up to 1.5GB and 500 operations/s.

The high read period sometimes runs for 15-20 minutes, other times 30, and today for almost an hour, until I restarted the VM. Restarting the VM is the only way to "get it back" as it's impossible to log through SSH or execute any operation from Azure, it's totally blocked.

I've found people having issues with OMS so I've disabled the provisioning in Security Center and uninstalled it from the VM. The issue got better, but it's still happening. I 've also uninstalled SCX and I'm thinking on disabling all cron jobs that call OMI to see if this still persists or not.

Has anybody had this issue? It's taking my site down at least twice a day and I don't know what to try now.

Moving a single VM between subscriptions-validation fails

$

I am trying to move a single virtual machine between two subscriptions.  It only has a storage account and a network card.

When I try to move it via the portal I  receive a message saying that "The move resources request does not contain all of the dependent resources. Please check error details for missing resource id's".  I then get a long list of different resources some of which are not related to the RG I am moving from.

I have tried to do it via powershell and get the same result.

I cannot see what I am doing wrong, when there is only one RG with a vm, a storage account and network card and I am selecting all of them on the console under 'resources to move'.

Can anyone explain what I am missing here?
