Azure VM Disconnecting from Network

Our Azure VM's keep freezing for several seconds every couple of minutes. It is not the local machine I am on as it continues to run fine. But what happens is the VM stops refreshing the screen and task manager stops updating what’s using the most resources and things and it looks as if the whole machine has crashed and then it comes back after several seconds and shows a yellow warning light in the system tray in the network for a split second, as if it has been disconnected. It has been doing this for a week at least.

Could I have some assistance with this please?

Thanks a lot

Executing an R Script in the VM using .Net

We have an R Script that we would want to execute in the VM, using its R kernel. However, we need to integrate it with our UI, hence, we would want to invoke the script execution from our .Net code itself. Can you please help?

Hello,

Quick question: How likely is it to get the HB60rs as a low priority instance in South Central US? I'm trying to get one for a better week now and the batch pool resize always times out. Is it even possible? The price/perfomance is amazing on it, so it bums me out I can't get it at all after all these days.

Configuring different environments like DEV, QA, STAGING and PRODUCTION using VMSS

Hello,

I am choosing Virtual Machine Scale Sets using custom Image to setup new web environment for one of my project. Before setting up production I would like to setup DEV ,QA and STAGING environments. I will handover VM to to Development team  to write code in web.config file for different environments. I will take the custom image of that VM and will configure VMSS. In this scenario where I can change the configuration for different environments like DEV, QA , STAGING and Production.

If I have option to change the configurations I can use only one custom image instead of creating images for each environment.

If option is not available request you to suggest me the best way to create different environments using VMSS in IaaS or any other services that I can use.

Join a VM to a domain

Hello,

I'm unable to join a VM to a domain.

An AAD DS exists and a password synchro with our local AD also exists and configured (Azure AD Connect).

I've always an error (1909) with a message like this: "The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to.". This message is shown when I try to change workgroup to domain: a user authentication is asked. I put a user from "AAD DC Administrators" group, but when I valid this authentication, I always got this error.

Thanks for your help.

Azure VM Snapshots

Hi,

We have an old app (that needs a few server instances like IIS, SQL, etc.) that we will need to maintain for a few years but will only be acessed a few times each year for searching specific things etc.

If we create the setup and stop de VMs, I would like to confirm that we will only pay for the space occupied, right?

Is there any other cheaper option like taking a snapshot, move it onprem, and only recreate the setup if needed? What is the reccomendation for scenarios like this?

Thanks/Brgds

Azure- VM Horizontal and Vertical Scaling

$

I was exploring ease of use and more automated solution and tried to do horizontal scaling and vertical scaling as a POC.

Horizontal Scaling:

I have implemented horizontal scaling using SCALESET(azure service used)

Problem: it’s not working as expected, although I have set up logic like whenever CPU hits 60%, SCALSET has to spin up 2 more VM machines but it didn’t  happen.

Vertical Scaling:

I am in process of vertical scaling on the VM based on CPU usage.

Problem Statement:

To convert the files from .dat to .parquet using COM DLL with python code(batch processing , not a web traffic)

Questions:

  1. Which one is the correct fit for my problem- vertical/horizontal scaling?
  2. Does horizontal scaling support in this scenario for internal load and how do we need to configure, I tried and it dint work out for some reason.
  3. If we choose vertical scaling, does the COM DLL works with high processing or not?

Problem with connecting to Azure windows 2016 VM after automated stop and restart

$

Hi, I am running a standard Windows 2016 VM on Azure. It is a standard implementation with RDS and Active directory installed and running.

The network rules have been modified to ensure that only Https (443) traffic is allowed to the server, and this is done using RDP clients that run on clients that have a certificate generated on the server in question installed on the local. Access is gained via the configured RDS gateway.

I have created a automated account which runs a schedule in which the server is automatically shutdown and started each working day. The automation works extremely well.

On a few occasions, I would say about 5 times in 3 months, once the server was successfully restarted (according to the Azure VM portal), users were unable to connect to the server using their RDS clients (Remote Desktop Connection). On these limited occasions, even opening up the RDP port did not allow anyone to initiate an RDP connection. A restart was required on each occasion in order to establish normal access.

I have looked at the event log and can see no direct reason for the inability to connect. There are a number of 7023 errors (apparently resolved with KB4467684 which has been installed on the server), 46 (crash dump failed) , 5774 NETLOGON and 36874 (TLS1.2 multi certificate selection) errors. I do not believe that any of these errors should result in the inability to logon to the server.

We are now simply running the server full time - which works without any problems.

When we experienced the problem, users had attempted to logon about 30 minutes after the server had restarted.

Is there any issue with regard to running a server in this manner and if so had could the operation be altered to ensure that this periodic inability to connect after a scheduled startup is resolved.

Task Scheduler fails to run tasks for over an hour after Azure VM start

$

I am having a Task Scheduler issue I have never seen before migrating servers to Azure. Most of our development servers are scheduled to shut down in the evening and start up again at 7am. Several of them have a Scheduled Task set to run at 7:15am. Some of them work fine, but others do not. I have set the ones with problems to start earlier so that the VM is running for longer and longer before the task is scheduled. This morning, I had one fail to run the task an hour and a half after startup!

I went so far as to set up a task to send me email every minute to see how after startup that I would get my first email. I didn't my first email until an hour after 15 minutes after the VM started.

According to Event Viewer, the Task Scheduler services is starting within a couple of minutes of startup. It just doesn't run any tasks.

I think all the VMs I have seen this problem on are Win2008R2. It doesn't affect all of them. The length of time varies. I looked at the schedule of this morning's problem machine. With the task scheduled 90 minutes after boot, of the 21 days it was scheduled for in December, it actually ran only 9 times.

I am at wits end. The whole purpose of shutting VMs down during off hours was to save money, but at this point, it is a net negative for these VMs because of the disruption and wasted time involved.

Assign Network Security Group(NSG) to Virtual Machine OR to the Subnet used by Virtual Machine

I'm having problem with portal.

I've created Network Security Group in the same location and in the same subscription.
It's not showing and I cannot assign it to a subnet or a Virtual Machine.

Further more, when creating a new virtual network interface, it's not showing my already existed virtual network which is used by my main virtual machine.

I recently all resources are moved to a new paid-to-go subscription. I'm not sure what's wrong with it.
- for more information, my all resources was under bizspark and the service was gone. because of that, a subscription manager from Azure helps moving all resources to the paid-to-go subscription.

New NSG was created in the same subscription and the same zone.

Look360VM is not VM. it's a Virtual Network.

In Virtural Network - Subnets - edit subnet - choose NSG,
the new NSG is not shown in the list.

In other way,
I tried to Look360 VM which is the virtual machine, needed to assigned section to assign the new NSG.

No luck as well.

In the section, Virtual machine - network security group - choose network security group,
the new NSG is not shown in the list.

I'd like to handle inbound and outbound with NSG.
Please leave me your comments.

Thank you :)
Best regards,

Kabkee Moon.

Hi There,

I am in the way of finding orphan resources in my all Azure subscription (15). I have done with my findings with Managed Disk, Un-managed Disk, Public IPs and Network Interfaces. But I found myself in hot water during finding of storage account and availability sets.

When I am running Get-azurermavailabiltyset cmdlet i cannot check Virtual machines instances in output. How can i achieve this as well as please also let me know way of retrieving orphan Storage account.

Do we need Azure SQL VM post TFS to Azure DevOps migration

In reference to Microsoft documentation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/articles/migration-import?utm_source=ms&utm_medium=guide&utm_campaign=vstsdataimportguide&view=vsts#importing-large-collections) for importing large TFS collections using Azure SQL VM, it is mentioned that we can delete the SQL login/rotate the password after import, my question is can we decommission/terminate the Azure SQL VM after we successfully import the TFS collection DB into Azure DevOps? We assume that the requirement of the Azure SQL VM is only during the phase of import. Please confirm.

Access Database (on Azure VM) running slow when open on 2 local machines via VPN

$

In azure, I have a VM set up with a virtual network which I am connecting to from multiple local machines. I have a Microsoft Access Database saved in a shared folder of the VM, which local machines can run via the VPN. When I have the database open on just 1 local computer, the speed is great. However, when 2 computers have the database open at the same time the speed is VERY slow. I need up to 8 people to have the database open at the same time, so this speed decrease is worrisome.

On Azure I have a Standard B2s (2 vcpus, 4 GB memory) VM with a Premium SSD. I can provide more details about the VN and Gateway if needed.

Previously the two computers used the same access database over a local network. Now they need to access it remotely with multiple users which is why I moved the database onto an azure vm and set them up with a vpn, but I am open to any other solution that would allow multiple users to work with the Access DB remotely at the same time.

Thank you in advance!
