Stopped (Deallocated)

$

Hi,

When I log on to the Azure Portal, I can see a handful of recently shutdown VMs having a status of "Stopped (Deallocated)".  Can someone tell me why this has started to happen as it means the VM has to provision a new IP when it starts up which makes the process considerably longer?

Many thanks in advance.

Low Virtual Memory Condition on Azure B1ms VM

$

Recently created a couple of Windows 2016 Standard B1ms (1 vcpus, 2 GB memory) to run IIS with a small set of applications and now getting these low memory warnings, which are news to me. I think this condition, may be related to a lack of actual memory that could've caused one of the applications to stop as well, although there is no "out of memory" event logged.

Here is view of task manager on the VM that stopped my application;

Here is the task manager on the twin VM (that didn't stop the application)

My question: Is there a configuration parameter that should be set to mitigate the "low virtual memory condition" and thus be sure that it is not affecting the running applications..?

I was able to connect to the full gui server using remote desktop, but after switching to core (by removing graphical management tools and infrastructure+ server graphical shell using the server manager) am not able to connect to the vm using remote desktop, why is that ?

DocumentDb on Azure virtual machine

Hi,

Can you please tell us if DocumentDb can run on Azure virtual machine? We currently use Azure Cosmos DB and we would like to move it to Azure virtual machine, if that is possible. When need answer to two questions:

1. If running DocumentDb on virtual machine is possible, can you please tell us how to do that + what are the costs?

2. If running DocumentDb on virtual machine is not possible, and we know that MongoDb on virtual machine is possible, is there a way to move/restore our database from Azure Cosmos DB to MongoDb on Azure virtual machine?

Thanks,

Majda

Join Azure VM to Existing Win 2012 r2 Domain

Hi,

We have a large physical server with half of it shared between 3 VMs that are managed by Hyper-V (Windows Server 2012).  One of these VM's acts as the domain controller.  What I would like to do is set up an Azure VM that I can 'join' or 'make part' our current Domain which will be also controlled by our current domains Active Directory?

Any advice is very much appreciated.

many thanks

Migrate core systems into Azure, best methods

$

Hello

I've been standing up and migrating machines to Azure for a while in a test environment, but I wanted to see what others thought of how best to make use of Azure services and potential with our small environment.  Let me outline our setup.

*We have two DC's in a main office and one at our sub site (which also runs as a file and print server)
*We also have one ageing Exchange server which is rapidly running out of space and one OWA in a DMZ.
*Other than this we have only five application servers doing different things, two IIS servers, two sql servers (clustered) and one file & print.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Key observations:

*Because the old DC's are 2008R2, I was thinking standing up two new Dc's in Azure with latest domain level of 2016, then I read that 2019 is available now.  Is it considered stable to jump to at this time?

*I wont need the third DC, and file and print services I could migrate to Azure as one (i.e do away with our remote site DC/F&P) and use Azure gateway VPN from the sub site into Azure services thus using the core ones.

* Do I migrate my existing F&P into Azure under 2008 or possibly stand up a new one and migrate all files and printers?  I don't want to rely on ageing OS technology, but I wanted to consider if an initial migrate would be beneficial. At this point i'm thinking new server and maybe Azure File Sync to ready it up for migration.

* If I keep exchange where it is for now with OWA, my authenticated users from my Ad in Azure can reach down into my site using Ad connect and I can put ADFS on my OWA server since its already in the DMZ.  would I be able to get away with putting AD connect on the exchange server or would I need to consider keeping a DC on site? I'm a little unclear about this part.  Essentially I want my users to still use OWA and exchange when using the DC's in Azure and the Exchange on prem.

* Use Azure Backup instead of my on site BUEX solution for all VM's.  Not sure if there is any merit in using BUEX to archive to blob storage so I'm thinking just Azure Backup entirely.  Unless 'm missing something?

I REALLY APPRECIATE ANY INPUT INTO MY MUSINGS HERE!

Azure VM Disconnecting from Network

$

Our Azure VM's keep freezing for several seconds every couple of minutes. It is not the local machine I am on as it continues to run fine. But what happens is the VM stops refreshing the screen and task manager stops updating what’s using the most resources and things and it looks as if the whole machine has crashed and then it comes back after several seconds and shows a yellow warning light in the system tray in the network for a split second, as if it has been disconnected. It has been doing this for a week at least.

Could I have some assistance with this please?

Thanks a lot

Hosting Azure On-Premise Data Gateway on an IaaS VM in cloud

$

Is there any reason why we shouldn't run an Azure On-Premise Data Gateway on an IaaS VM incloud with internal VNET to accesson prem data?

If we host gateway onsite we'll need to assign hardware to run the VM on site, and manage the VM. We have VMs running in Azure on private VNETs accessing our internal database servers (DB2/TeraData/SQL) via installed drivers. So it would make sense to run gateway there.

Is there any advice on this scenario or reason why it's not recommended? Or is this acceptable option?

Move a hosted VM with a cloud provider onto Azure?

Hi,

My current setup is a 2012 Server "Non Domain Joined" which is also running SQL.  I know its not ideal but this is how it was set up before I joined.  About 4-5 users connect to the server and login to share its resources.

Firstly I want to move the server As Is onto Azure.  As this is hosted we do not have access to the VM layer and we can't get a copy of the VMDK files or anything.

My plan is to set up a test account and migrate the server to Azure to start testing it but I don't know where to start.

Any help appreciated?

What could I use to do a full backup of the server hosted elsewhere and then restore it to Azure?

Many thanks in advance.

Unable to create Virtual Machine when passing splat parameters (Possible virtual network issue?)

Please let me know if you need any specifics on my variables and I'll gladly provide them. To summarize my situation, I have a script that automates the following:

-Create Resource Group

-Create Security Group & Security Rules

-Create a pseudo-randomly generated back-end & front-end subnet

-Create a Virtual Network with the generated subnets

-Create a LocalNetworkGateway using input from technician (public IP address, private address space, etc.)

-Creates a storage account, keys and context

-Creates an upload container and uploads a sysprep'd vhd image

-Creates an AzureRmImage from the vhd

UP UNTIL THIS POINT, EVERYTHING APPEARS TO WORK. It fails when attempting to create the virtual machine. See below code:

#CREATE A VIRTUAL MACHINE

Hi all,

I have provisioned an Ubuntu VM and have been able to SSH into the server. However, https://my-ip:8000 doesn't load Jupyter notebook for me. Also I am unable to even install Jupyter because none of the conda commands are found. Can someone please tell me how to get Jupyter working either with the browser or by installing from anaconda?

How to allow users to connect to a Perforce Server running on a Windows Server Azure VM?

$

Allow me to apologize in advance for any stupid questions. I have little to no IT experience, but have been thrust into this role due to working with a very small team.

I currently have a Windows Server 2016 VM up and running. I'm able to connect to it via RDP so I have it at least partially set up correctly. My team and I are intending to use this machine to host our Perforce Helix Core Server for our code repository. I have this set up and it should be accessible via port 1666.

Where I'm getting lost is how to set up permissions to allow us to actually connect to this server via the Perforce Visual Client (P4V).  I have set up a DNS Label in the configuration settings of the Windows Server VM (via the Azure Portal) and will be expecting to connect to the perforce server using the server name mylabel.westus2.cloudapp.azure.com:1666 but am unsure what exactly needs to be configured to allow this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It should also be worth mentioning that my team and I all work remotely, so I will need to ensure any solution gives us access but still ensures enough safety that no one outside the team can access this code repository.

Thanks!
