Error when Applying Virtual Machine Tags

This afternoon we saw that the Azure Rest API has a new version which is causing our Azure PowerShell (5.3.0) requests to fail. The endpoint being called is the 2018-10-01 which returns 400 Bad Request:

{"error": {"code": "PatchResourceReadFailed","message": "The request to GET resource 'https://management.azure.com/subscriptions/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx/resourceGroups/infrbaz1_rg/providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines/infrbaz1ln01?api-version=2018-10-01' for patching failed with status 'BadRequest'."
    }
}

When we change the endpoint in Postman to 2017-12-01 the request completes ok.

Steps to Repro:

AzureRm Version 5.3.0
AzureRm.Resources Version 5.3.0

$vmName = ""

$myVM = Get-AzureRmResource  | Where-Object{$_.resourceName -ieq $vmName }
$myVM.Tags.Add("Test","TestTag")
$myVM | Set-AzureRmResource -Force

It looks as thought Azure Powershell always uses the latest available endpoints and the latest (2018-10-01) doesn't seem compatible with the models Powershell is providing

Created a Windows VM and asked for ssh and rdp connection in setup stage.  rdp works but ssh fails with resource not available.  VM networking has inbound rule so that port is 22 fully open

Accessing file shares on DC on Azure

Hi,

I recently moved a domain controller VM to Azure. I configured point-to-site VPN to connect with the vNET attached to the moved domain controller. I was able to RDP and ping to the VM on Azure but couldn't access file shares on that particular server.

Then I demoted the server domain and tried again and I was able to access the file share without a problem.

Any idea why I can't access the file shares when DC role is installed.

Thanks

Hello,

we have reservation on VMs Standard_D4_v3 with Quantity 4. Problem is that we have 10 machines with Standard_D4_v3 and we want to choose specific VMs to assign reservation. Some of these 10 machines are deallocated in night and this reservation is in 100% utilization all night and that´s not good. How can we managed this reservation?

Hello,

I'm trying to convert from Standard_LRS to Premium_LRS to a vm scale sets but it gives out an error "changing property of "osDisk.managedDisk.storageAccountType is now allowed" .

I'm using a custom image, which the image itself was converted to Premium_SSD through PowerShell.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

No internet connectivity in the vmss server

We deployed the virtual machine scaleset server(Linux) under the application gateway with a JSON script. Which is working fine.

We want to check the scale-up process so we tried to load test the vmss server by logging into it. We used a jump server to login inside the vmss server. Then we found that there is internet connectivity there. Please help us solving the issue.

Hi,

I have created a VM in azure and is running a .Net Core self hosted web app listening on port xxxx. This port is enabled for inbound traffic on  the VM  (added using inbound port rules), But I am not able to access the web site from internet - My app is listening on http://0.0.0.0:xxxx, I can access the app from the VM using localhost:xxxx. What could be the reason? Am I missing anything?

Cheers,

Jereesh

Transfer VM or whole resource group to different account

Hi,

I'm switching employers, so I'll get a new Visual Studio Subscription. I've been using my free monthly Azure Credit to play around in azure. I now basically have a VM and some attached stuff (firewall settings, IP...) that I'd like to take with me.

I have the subscription on my personal Microsoft account, and I hope I'll get the new subscription on that again. I have to assume that I won't have both subscriptions at the same time though.

Therefore, I need to temporarily transfer my stuff to another subscription.

Can't activate the trial on my other personal account, since I don't have a credit card.

SO hwo do I take my VM with me? Hope you can help, I'd hate rebuilding everything.

Greetings,

Marlon

When fail back is completed, Through to VPN I can connect to the VM using RDP but I cannot connect to file shares on that VM.

Is there any way to check if any large amount of data (file sizes in the GB to TB range) have been downloaded from our Azure account?

Hello Team,

We have a VM which hosts SQL Server. Now we have moved the database from this VM to SQL Server service.

Now we would like to take a back up of the VM and all its associated disks and archive to cheap storage before deleting the VM and the associated disks.

Please provide guidance on how to take back up of the VM and its associated disks and also on storing the backups (to save cost).

Thanks,

How to give rights to start/stop/reboot particular VMs ?

$

Hello all,

I wanted to give one person an ability to start/stop/reboot particular VMs. Ideally it should be something as simple as possible. I mean he/she can logon and then select one or more VMs and then reboot them. So he/she cannot see and do anything else. Is there anything like that possible on Azure portal ?

Thanks

P.

Hi,

I have added the DNS label name nlscloud.southindia.cloudapp.azure.com to my azure VM machine IP 104.211.228.20. However am unable to access the domain name from the internet, only through the IP.
I had added the same way for a different VM and its accessible. Am unable to figure out why this particular one wont work.
Kindly assist.

Notification of Maintenance of the Host which matches "Pausing the VM with in-place migration"

We have a single VM which is not in available group due the line of Line of Business which run can not be made highly available do the fact of way the application is written.

I have been looking at virtual-machines and the maintenance-notifications in the azures Docs,

And have a question about maintenance of the underlying host. I understand you will get notify if they need to reboot the host and you can arrange to reboot you VM in your next maintenance window. So that the VM is Power on to another host. But what happens regarding this "If the maintenance does not require a reboot, Azure uses in-place migration to pause the VM while the host is updated" Do you still get notified of when this is going to happen so you can do the same as above and restart the VM to move on to another host or does it just happens when they say it will happen (hopefully this will be out of hours for that region) and your VM will Paused while the maintenance happens on that host.

Azure - Cannot send Email through SMTP

Hi

I'm unable to send email through SMTP from an Azure server from our own application (written in C#).
Running it from another server (not Azure) works fine.
There seems to be something with the SMTP host (smtp-mail.outlook.com) as other hosts, like gmail, works fine from Azure.

The error I get is:

---
The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated.
The server response was: 5.7.57 SMTP;
Client was not authenticated to send anonymous mail during MAIL FROM [VI1PR07CA0132.eurprd07.prod.outlook.com]
---

The C# code is fairly simple:

var Mail = new System.Net.Mail.MailMessage();
Mail.To.Add(new System.Net.Mail.MailAddress("xxx@yyy.zz"));
Mail.From = new System.Net.Mail.MailAddress("xxx@hotmail.com");
Mail.Subject = "xxx";
Mail.Body = "xxx";
Mail.IsBodyHtml = true;

var Client = new System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient("smtp-mail.outlook.com", 587);
Client.EnableSsl = true;
Client.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("xxx@hotmail.com", "xxx");
Client.Send(Mail);
What could be wrong and how to fix it?
