Virtual Machine High Latency issues

$

From @emanuelyuchino via Twitter:

"I have some problems with an Azure VM, when I ping to computers in my azure network, the pings are to 100-100+ but in only one of the VMs. The others VMs cannot have this problem. The Vm is a DS3 and the others are basic and standard.this problem occurs after the vm restart and have problems to start. The vm was restarted and after the restart the latency between the others vms start to increase, normally is 1-80 but now ups to 120 - 300 ms and sometimes have timeouts packages. The latency ups to 700+. The other vms work normally."

Unable to deploy VM via ARM

From: Adam Bertram @adbertram via Twitter

I’m trying to deploy a single VM via ARM using a template via PowerShell. When I attempt this, I’m getting this error even though I only have a single CustomScriptExtension resource defined in my template.

I have sysprepped a Server 2008 R2 VHD, uploaded to my storage account and am attempting to deploy a v2 VM with it with an ARM template deployed via PowerShell. I’ve followed this same procedure with my Server 2012 R2 image and it works great.
Here’s the failure I get when I attempt to deploy a VM. It hangs for nearly 25 minutes and I get the attached error. In the portal, I see an error in the Audit logs like this: "statusCode:Conflict statusMessage:{"status":"Failed","error":{"code":"ResourceDeploymentFailure","message":"The resource operation completed with terminal provisioning state 'Failed'.","details":[{"code":"VMStartTimedOut","message":"VM ' did not start in the allotted time. The VM may still start successfully. Please check the power state later."}]}}”

However, the VM will not start even when attempted manually.

Thanks,

@AzureSupport

Create different virtual machines and bill to individual customers

From @ALMtoolbox via Twitter,

I'm still struggling to understand the best practices of creating virtual machines. Herein my question:
we have 5 users in Bizspark. We have to create 3 different virtual machines and we'd like to set it like that that:

a. each VM is billed from a different user

b. all users can access all 3 machines above

Can you guide us how to do so?

Thanks,

SQL Express 2014 images don't configure local admin as sysadmin

This is great:

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/partners/microsoft/sqlserver2014sp1expresswindowsserver2012r2/

However, after creating a VM here, I cannot make any configurations to the SQL Server Express 2014 - including switching to Mixed Mode Authentication or creating user accounts - because the local administrator account created for me on provisioning of the VM isn't in the sysadmin role. Therefore, I'm basically screwed. Can't do any configuration so I can't really use the server.

So, this VM doesn't seem ready for prime time. Am I missing something?

The creation of the VM didn't ask me ANYTHING about SQL Server configuration (such as whether or not SQL Server Authentication is enabled or SA account username or password).

Granted, the press release about these VMs was only 20 days ago, I would have expected to see SOMETHING about this.

Anyone?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if any of you know when the N-series instances would be released? I know that during October last year they were announced, however till date I'm not able to find them available in any zone.

Any information would be helpful,

Thanks

Hi!

Has anyone experience downloading Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Readiness Assessmentinstaller with corrupt/invalid signature. Is it still ok to use that installer? Can you suggest what should be done? I need to evaluate the tool.

I downloaded the installer in the Microsoft download site.

Capture Image on Virtual Machine (NOT Classic)

$

Hi,

I tried following the guide https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-capture-image-windows-server/

However, the button "Capture" is only available in Virtual Machine Classic, and the server I want to capture is in the standard Virtual Machine tab. I browsed around all around my control panel, but couldn't find a "Capture" button.

Does anyone know how do this?

Kind regards,

Inka

Hello,

I can't connect to a Windows 2008r2 VM. it's running and last time I have used it was 6 month ago and the connection works fine. I'm recreate RDP end point on the same VM with another port but it doesn't work.

If tried to create a new VM from a VHD backup image but , I can't connect

If I create a new VM (for example) a Windows Server 2012 on the same RDP port of not working VM, I can connect well.

How can try to restore RDP functionality? Any idea?

Thanks,

Fabio

Hi all,

I attempted to run a script on a target VM in Azure ARM using Custom Script Extension. Custom Script Extension failed by calling out an API error.

I navigated to the portal to see the error messages associated with the extension. However, I see this:

I've obviously checked that the VM is running.

Anyone seen this error before?

WSUS server - Connection Error

Hi all,

I have a WSUS server in an Azure VM running Windows Server 2012 R2. I performed a migration of the WSUS server (which was working perfectly) from Azure ASM (v1) to Azure ARM (v2). I am now experiencing this problem when trying to connect to the WSUS console:

After some time, I see this error:

The only change I can think about that is different during the migration is the IP address of the VM and its DNS entry. I have cleaned up the DNS and can confirm all records are correct:

What is missing?

Azure Fault Domain Node Resiliency

I'm curious about the resiliency of the underlying server hardware that the VM host is running on in the fault domain.  If one of the processors in the blade fails, would that take down my VM host and node?

Not able to connect azure VM using hostname

I am not able to resolve azure VM hostname with the IP Address. If i want to RDP or connect the database, i have to use the IP Address of the Azure VM rather than Azure VM hostname.

Any Suggestions.

Ubuntu Port 3306 Not connecting

Hi Team,

We have set up a ubuntu vm in azure and assigned one PIP to the VM.
We are able to take rdp of it using SSH and VNC with PIP. We are able to ping the VM using PIP.

Now when we try to telnet ubuntu vm using telnet on port 3306 it is not getting connected.
I have specified the end point as 3306 on Public and private port.

Is there something more which we have to configure on Azure to be able to connect to this VM.

Thanks,
Mitesh

Metrics collection for ARM resources

$

Hello,

I am trying to get metrics for ARM VM resources. I've installed the nuget package "Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Management.Monitoring" of version "4.1.0" for the same. I am able to fetch metrics for classic VM resources using metricsClient.MetricValues.List() method. But for ARM VM resource, I am not able to get the data as it throws CloudException with the following error message:

"<string xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/">{"Code":"InvalidRequest","Message":"Invalid resource ID value."}</string>"

Please help me out in figuring out how to fetch the metrics for this resource.

Thank you,

Anand
