hi. i have a couple of vms in the west us region. one of them, a 2008r2 instance, has been pretty unstable for the last few days. 2 nights ago it shut down and did not restart.
i got alerts from my monitoring service and logged into the portal to find it shut down. i restarted it and that worked, but i had some trouble getting iis back up until i noticed that the internal ip address had changed. iis wouldn't start because it was
bound to the old address. once i changed the bindings to point at the new ip address everything came back online. event log suggests this was a planned shutdown, but the machine was not restarted automatically.
and the last couple of nights i've seen several hard resets. the server disappears for 5 - 20 minutes and then comes back up. when i rdp in i'm prompted to enter a reason
for the shutdown and the event log says the shutdown was unexpected. this happened most recently at3:58:46 AM pacific time on 09/03/2013.
any ideas what is happening here, or what i can do to fix it? i don't have a support contract, but this seems like breakfix to me. i'll be happy to provide more information
if that would help.
thanks,
mf
