It seems that most queries on here about RDP into an Azure VM are about people being unable to connect. Mine is quite the reverse - despite the RDP endpoint on my VM having the usual random public port, I can connect to the VM from the Internet on port 3389. More importantly, so can the hacker in Poland who has been trying to log on to my network using random usernames for the past few days. Sure I can use the Windows firewall to try to restrict access but that means a lot of work to ensure that I can still get access when I need it and making sure the web app on there still works properly for the users.
Can anyone suggest why Internet access is open to a VM that doesn't have any endpoints configured other than the defaults?
