I have a SQL 2008 Developer Edition disc that I purchased from Microsoft back in 2009, is it possible to use my own installation (uploading the disc and running SETUP) on an Azure VM instead of using their pre-installed versions?
The cost of a "SQL Virtual Machine" with the configuration I want is several times higher than a regular Windows 2008 or 2012 VM - so can't I just do a regular VM and then install SQL using my own media and license I already paid for?.
When I attempted the install on a 2012 VM it told me there were compatibility issues and wouldn't let the install continue - if I do a 2008 server instead of 2012 will it work there?
