Mapping Drives and Customizing Point to Site VPN Connection Credentials?

I setup a point to site VPN in Azure consisting of a Virtual Network that contains 1 VM.  I successfully generated the certificates and am able to connect and establish a VPN connection.  Once I start the VPN connection is automatically connects and allows me to map drive letters to shared resources on the VM using syntax "\\10.0.1.4\<share name>.  I got excited and happy I got this far.

What I can't seem to figure out is what log in credentials the VPN package/connection passes on since I am not prompted for a username/password when it initializes. The reason this is important is because I am trying to distribute the VPN package to others in our organization and depending on their function and role have to be able to limit access to certain directories. Obviously we can't all come in with the same log in credentials if I am to secure sensitive information/directories.

I have even tried to get around this by trying to establish a drive mappings (in Windows 7) using "connect using different credentials" but none of the valid AD accounts allow me successfully establish a mapping. I know the accounts/passwords are good because I can connect using RDP. None work.

I have searched the Internet for hours looking for a possible solution. It appears that I am stuck with the credentials provided in the VPN connection/package? Tried using "domain\username", "10.0.1.4\username", etc. in a variety of ways but no luck connecting. Seems elementary - What am I missing?

Thanks
