Loss of connectivity to Linux VM

Hello, I've lost connectivity to a CentOS VM. It was running SSH (I changed nothing other than the initial configuration) and some http services. I can't connect to either of them. The dashboard shows continuous usage of 24% the processor (it had 4 cores). After reading some similar posts here, I resized the VM, which did nothing.

This has happened before, I know how to recover, but I want to know how I can figure out what happened and stop it from happening. Any ideias?
