Are Basic_A0 (shared core, 768 MB memory) VMs useful..?

I sold IBM mid range computers for quite a while and got well used to the fact that the entry level models were pretty much useless for any practical work while being barely adequate to run their own operating system.

The Basic_A0 VM with only 768 MB of RAM did look a bit marginal and the VMs I've spun up at that level so far utilise 80-90% of memory and alarming amounts of processor just sitting there doing nothing. Downloading and installing updates takes a long, long time. I'm probably kidding myself that I could do anything with an A0, so I'm curious to know what others have found.

Maybe the A0 is cheap for a reason...

My question is:

Why is an A1 VM FOUR times the price of an A0 VM..?
