CentOS Black Screen

My Azure virtual machine was not yet in product while we contemplated the best day to perform a migration over to it. While it was sitting there untouched we lost contact with it. I tried some suggestions found here in the forums: reboot it, change to a new cloud service, delete the virtual machine and make a new one in a new cloud service. None of these steps have resolved the issue. So I downloaded the OS disk and attempted to boot it locally in hyper-v.

I get a message saying EDD=off is disabled. Then a blinking cursor on a black screen. Looking at a few Centos support sites I tried adding a space and then a 3 at the end of the kernel line. No change in boot behavior. Tried doing the same adding an S at the end. No change in boot behavior.

I'm no Linux expert. Need some more ideas on how to get this machine to boot. Ideally I'd also like to know when happened while it was just sitting there.

thanks, Amy
