If you are having trouble connecting to Linux VM that was deployed from the Azure portal after March 5th, then please check the public port that is being used to expose the SSH endpoint for your virtual machine. We have updated the automatically created endpoint for SSH on Linux to return to using a random public port instead of using port 22 for the first virtual machine created in each cloud service. This change was made as a security "defense in depth" measure.
You can find the public port number for a virtual machine through the following steps:
- Select VIRTUAL MACHINES in the Azure portal
- Click the virtual machine in question
- Click ENDPOINTS
- Note the port number listed under the heading PUBLIC PORT for the endpointSSH
