Adding drive to azure vm

Hi,

I have setup a basic vm on Azure.

I have two questions:

1) Is the system disk persistant in the case of me shutting down the server? The other disks are not, which leads me to my next question...

2) Is there a way to add additional disks to a vm? I can't see the option.
