Can't access web site on Sharepoint 2010 VM from external

I setup a domain and SharePoint 2010 farm on Azure VM's. I have a web site (Publishing Portal) which I can access from the SharePoint server itself, as well as the domain controller, but when I try to access the site from external I get "The webpage cannot be found". I tried the virtual public IP as well as the DNS name http://server.cloudapp.net.

The web app uses claims based authentication with NTLM. It also has a host header configured (ex: testsite) and is using port 80.

I created an endpoint for the VM specifying port 80 (public and private). I created an inbound firewall rule in the OS for port 80 and even turned the firewall off completely.

What am I missing?
